Luscious Laddoos for Lord Ganesh on Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is a traditional Indian Festival celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion across the India as well as abroad to commemorate the birth of Lord Ganesha on fourth day of the Bhadrapad month of the Hindu calander. To pay reverence to the lord of wisdom, prospesrity and good fortune and considered as the removar of impediments, people install clay idols of Lord Ganesha in their houses and decorated public stages (Pandals), chant the Vedic Mantra and sing the glory of the Lord to worship him.
On this pious day people offer a variety of sweets as Bhog to the Lord, his favourite sweets, like- Laddoos, Modaks and Churma. Celebrated for long ten days, innumerous idols of Lord Ganesha displaysed privately or publicly are taken into a procession on Anant Chaturdashi and immersed in the rivers, ponds, lakes and oceans. On the occasioin of this holy festival, the tasteofcity highlights a few sweet delicacies which are easy to prepare at home.
Churma Laddoo
Luscious Laddoo is the most favourite sweet of the Lord Ganesha. Originated in the state of Rajasthan or Gujarat, Churma Laddoos are now relilshed everywhere in India. It is prepared from the dumplings of the coarse wheat flour dough deep-fried in the Ghee (clarified butter), broken into small pieces and grinded in a powder form (Churma), poured with generous amount of Ghee, added with melted jaggery or powdered sugar, garnished with dry-fruits, like- raisins, diced cashews, nutmeg, pistachios, almonds etc. and bound into round shaped Laddoos. Relished as the Prasadam of Lord Ganesha, served along with Dal, Baati and steamed rice, this mouthwatering dish is amazingly delicious and irresistible to try for its heavenly sweet flavour.
Bundi ke Laddoo
Delicioius Bundi ke Laddoo is yet another favourite sweet dish of Lord Ganesha. Prepared from the deep-fried droplets of the gram flour batter, soaked in sugar syrup, flavoured with cardamom powder, edible orange food colour and saffron strands, added with finely cut cashews, pistachios, raisins etc. bound into medium sized round shaped Laddoos and offered to the Lord. Served along with main course of meal, this flovoursome sweet dish is savoured as a dessert and make you to drool for its aromatic sweet flavour.
Besan ke Laddoo
Again a favourite sweet dish of Lord Gahesha, scrumptious Besan ke Laddoo is a healthy and nutritious sweet dish from North India. It is prepared by dry roasting gram flour, added with clarified butter, again roasted till the mixture releases a strong nutty fragrance, sweetened with powdered sugar, garnished with raisins, finely cut almonds, powdered green cardamom, pistachio, cashews etc. allowed to cool and bound into medium sized Laddoos. This luscious dish is irresistible to try for its devine sweetness.
Coconut Laddoo
Melt in mouth Coconut (Nariyal) Laddoo is a luscious sweet dish offered to Lord Ganesha on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. It is prepared from fresh desiccated coconut cooked in Ghee (clarified butter), little milk and sugar, garnished with ground green cardamom and broken pieces of cashew nuts on low heat, allowed to cool and bound into medium sized Laddoos. Offered to Lord this incredible sweet is served along with main course and good enough to make you drool and ask for more for its heavenly sweet flavour.
Rava Laddoo
Delicious Rava Laddoo is a very simple yet mouthwatering traditional sweet dish relished as a dessert on festive occasions like Ganesh Chaturthi and other important Indian festivals and can be made within no time. It is made from Rava (semolina) roasted in Ghee (clarified butter), added with powdered sugar, cardamom powder, Ghee roaseted cashews and bound into round shaped medium sized Laddoos. Offered to Lord Gahesha as Bhog and distributed among devotees, this exotic dish is sure to make your lips smack.
Steamed/Fried Modak
Modak is one of the most favourite food of Lord Ganesh besides Laddoos. Modak is derived from the word Mod (pleasure) and hence get the name Modak (one that enhances the pleasure). Originated in Maharashtra, the Steamed Modak also locally called as Ukadiche Modak is prepared from the outer shell made from rice flour, cooked in Ghee, kneaded in dough, small portions are made as small round discs, stuffed with Ghee roasted grated coconuts, sweetened with powdered sugar, pleated with hands, sealed all the pleats at the top and steam cooked in a steamer plate. Offered to Lord Ganesha as Naivedyam and distributed among devotees, this marvelous dish is irresistible to try for its divine luscious flavour.
Instead of steam cooking, the same can be deep-fried in the oil to get crisp and golden brown Fried Modaks and are highly delicious to relish.
Mava Modak
Delectable Mava Modak is again a sweet delicacy offered to Lord Ganesha as the Naivedyam and relished with great ferver as Prasadam. The dish is prepared from the grated Mava (condensed milk) roasted in pure Desi Ghee (clarified butter), sweetened with powdered sugar, flavoured with ground green cardamom, kneaded in a dough, placed inside a Modak Maker, pressed a little to get the desired shape and unmoulded. This highly nutritious delicacy will surely tickle your taste buds with its heavenly luscioius flavour.
Rava Modak
Rava Modak is yet another unique delicacy prepared on auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and savoured as a dessert. The dish is prepared from the outer cover made from Rava (semolina) added to the rolling boiled water, allowed to cook thoroughly and kneaded into a dough. Small round shaped portions of this dough are pressed between both the hands, stuffed with the filling of Ghee roasted grated coconuts sweetened with melted jaggery, flavoured with green cardamom powder and offered to Lord Ganesh. Relished instantly or chilled, the delicacy will certainly make you to drool.
Chocolate Modak
Chocolate Modak is also a variety of Mokas offered to the Lord Ganesh, relished as a dessert and presented as a gift to the near and dear ones. This scrumptious delicacy is made from the grated Khoya/Mava (condensed milk) roasted in Ghee, sweetened with caramelized sugar, added with cocoa powder, the mixture is allowed to cool down a little, kneaded in a dough and small round portions of it are placed in a Mokak maker, pressed a little and unmoulded. Served as Prasadam of the Lord or presented as a gift, this unique dish is savoured for its unique chocolate flavour.
Dal Baati Churma
Not only Laddoos, but, scrumptious Dal Baati Churma- a unique combo originated in Rajasthan is also offered to Lord Vinayak as Naivedyam. The platter offered to the Lord is a three-in-one dish, that is- Churma made from the dumplings of wheat flour dough deep-fried in Ghee, grinded into powdered form, added with generous amount of clarified butter, sweetened with powdered sugar, garnished with diced almonds and green cardamom, then Baati made from the dumplings of coarse wheat flour dough added with carom seeds, cooked in oven, laden with plenty of clarified butter; and finally the Daal- a wholesome spicy stew made from lentils- black gram and split Bengal gram with goodness of accentuated spices, tempered with cumin seeds, asafoetida etc. added with lemon juice and coriander leaves. The delectable combo is sure to delight your taste buds.
